Conundrum that is Harriet Miers

Will the Real Harriet Miers Please Stand Up?

A Church-going Republican who supports affirmative action? Who'd ever thunk it possible?

This and more adds to the conundrum that is Harriet Miers' bid for supreme decision maker.

Following the Miers' debacle the question begs to be asked. Do we want a wild-card like her sitting on the bench?

It seems that both sides of the political fence are saying no, and Charles Krauthammer offers Harriet a graceful exit strategy:

"Hence the perfectly honorable way to solve the conundrum: Miers withdraws out of respect for both the Senate and the executive's prerogatives, the Senate expresses appreciation for this gracious acknowledgment of its needs and responsibilities, and the White House accepts her decision with the deepest regret and with gratitude for Miers's putting preservation of executive prerogative above personal ambition.

Faces saved. And we start again."
Rather naive given Bush's pluck don't you think?

If I read or hear one more word about Harriet, I'm gunna hurl.

So, we get a return I.Q.'ism, only this time, from the right (Harriet isn't a giant scholar). The same nonsense weebin gettin from many quarters on the left, fir a while now (Dub doesn't have the smartz to be Prez). Or .... that Harriet doesn't have the experience, or the sophistication, or whatever?

It's all rather kaleidoscopic really. Politics having returned as intramural sport. Cos one faction wasn't overtly pandered to.

Me .... poysunally, I don't think I have any business deciding what any woman does with her uterus (that's just me). But, I do accept others in their very strong views, and simply agree to quietly disagree. The country itself will Never agree.

I don't believe Roberts will be the impetus for overturning Roe v Wade. At all. And Harriet? She's would be entitled to vote her personal conviction (even as a jurist).

I haven't said much of anything about the nomination, which I saw as the mark of a man very firmly in command of his position. Selecting someone he knew would do an excellent job. Nothing more, nothing less. Liberals AND Conservatives be damned.

And certainly not dictated by one of the trillion scenarios put forth, about the why's of the selection.

Mostly I find it rather comical. What the heck they think she's been doing at the White House all these years?
